How to Declutter Your Home

Tackle one room at a time. If you try to do the whole house, you will become distracted, and your energies will be diffused, and you will find it easy to lose track of your direction. This makes the job longer and harder than it has to be. So, make the job less stressful, by finishing one room at a time.

Everyday, people, just like you, wake up and realize that they have too much clutter and do not know how it came to be. You are not a messy person. You try to keep a nice home. One day it just seemed to be everywhere. What happened? Life is what happened. We all accumulate stuff as we move through our lives, collecting mementos, souvenirs, photos, books, clothes, electronics, etc.

As you remove things from the room you're working on, you should place these items into one of three categories: Keep, Sell, or Toss. You'll need an area for each of these. If you label them, it's easier to keep track of them. This is especially helpful if people are helping you (highly recommended).

Decluttering superficial clutter is always easy but it's when you start to look at why you hold onto clutter you can begin to make huge changes and really get rid of clutter that has been sitting around for years. Here is a micro look at the five most common clutter excuses for holding on to the stuff you no longer use or love.

It is unlikely that she will enter your bedroom, so do yourself a favor and shut your bedroom door. Throw a comforter over your bed to resemble a bit of a made-up bed. Begin in your living room by gathering all of the excess newspapers and magazines, etc. and throw them into your recycle. If there is a mountain of toys strewn about, gather them into a hamper or throw them into a toy box if you have one in the room.

Now let us learn some organizing tips to know how to declutter a home and in a better way. Give some rest to your wallet and avoid frequent buying of stuff. Whenever you bringing a new item into your house, ensure that you eliminate something else for the storage space. You can make it a policy to remove and dispose two old items for every entry of a new item.

Donate or give away useful items to charity. Some things that you no longer use may be useful to others. Another option is to turn your old clutter into cash. The internet makes this even simpler. Place the things you no longer need on eBay or similar auction websites. Craigslist.com allows free classified ad postings as well. Some families prefer to make it a fun event by holding a garage or yard sale.
